Black Comedy Crime

Not gonna lie, the only reason I started watching was a TikTok, where Emily Blunt screamed at Catherine O’Hara „No Mom, I survived you!“ and I thought it was a film about the emancipation of a woman in her 30s/40s.
It wasn’t. I then got really confused if I somehow started watching Hustlers (2019 with Jennifer Lopez) as the film starts in a strip club and Emily Blunt having to earn money. But we quickly meet Chis Evans‘ character, somehow not too different from the men that he generally plays, offering her a deal of a lifetime. Obviously lying because the company he is working for is about to be out of business. I’ll be honest, I love Chris Evans but this role annoyed the hell out of me.
Emily Blunt sweeps in, more luck than sense, making the first big deal and from then on it goes upwards, they all make more money than they could ever dream of. You find out the stuff they’re selling though isn’t as harmless as it seems and so the whole thing goes down and Emily Blunt is at the forefront exposing Chris Evans and Andy Garcia, her strange boss. Emily Blunt in my opinion is also the saving grace of this movie, I loved watching her giving the men what they deserved.
By the way, the scene that initially got me to start this movie was quite disappointing as it was inconsequential to the rest of the movie.
The whole movie was okay, there was nothing I would outright criticize, the performances were okay to good, the camera, light and music fit and overall the message of the corrupt health system in the USA was quite realistic. Maybe because of what is happening in/with the USA at the moment or the fact that someone like me has to live knowing that money-hungry people don’t even stop at people’s lives it left a bad aftertaste and I don’t think I would recommend it.
Have you seen this movie? What are your thoughts on it? And what movie should I watch next?
